What to Wear : Musical Contest

Question
I need to dress up for a junior high music contest. I have three solos that I will be doing so I need to look alright for them. I know that the more info you have, the easier it will be to answer my question, so I'll give you some background.

I am a 13 year old girl in th 8th grade. I am quite pale, like I'm the lightest shade of face powder you will find. I have naturally blonde hair that has some natural red tones (i used to have red hair when i was little, but it turned blonde). I have dark green/blue/gray-green eyes and long light eyelashes. I have some skin problems, so I always wear a powder on my face. I also have fullish lips which I think are very pretty and naturally dark pinkish. I also have braces, on top and bottom teeth, if that means anything to you. My height is 5'4" and I weigh about 130 pounds, I don't really have any problem areas except my thighs, which doesn't matter because I'm wearing a dress.

The dress I'm wearing is black with black lace netting over it. The lace on top has darker black polka dots. The sleeves are sort of like a tank top but is made only out of lace and the normal dress fabric part of it starts at a "strapless" level I guess. The top part is fitted and has ruching on it under the lace and has a black ribbon that goes around a little under my waist. It goes to right below my knees and has more lace at the bottom to make it poof out a little, so it's an A-line dress. I'm wearing 2 and a half to 3 inch black heels that are really simple with it, a biggish clear crystal and silver ring (one big stone in the center with a silver color band around it), small dangly earrings that have black beads on them, and a 3-strand fake pearl bracelet with little seperater things that keep the strands together with small crystal rhinestone things on them. Mostly just simple accesories.

omg i know this is reeeaaally long but I just have a little bit left. If you could help me decide on makeup that would be helpful. I usually wear face powder, brown-black mascara (a couple of coats to make my eyelashes dark and full at the roots), not a lot of eyeliner (and I usually change the color every day), and sometimes lip gloss or a little bit of lipstick. Do you think I should maybe wear reddish lipstick and just mascara with a little bit of silvery shimmery eyeshadow, or should I make my eyes smoky-ish and shimmery and not do anything with my lips exept maybe a little bit of clear gloss? I'm not hoping to look super-vampy or glamorous, and I'm not going for the goth look, so I'm going to try not to wear to much black or dramatic makeup.

One of my solos is a French Horn solo, so I'll have to wipe off any lipstick or lipgloss and re-apply later. Also, do you think my outfit sounds all right? not to black or depressing, I hoped it looked classy.

Answer
Hi Lizzy,
First of all I want to commend you on your excellent use of the English language! I am very happy to receive letters with so much information and which is also clearly explained.

So you've picked our your dress and accessories, they all sound lovely, nicely chosen and classy. Simple and elegant is always right.

As for your makeup, I like the idea of making your eyes smoky, and eliminating your lipstick totally until after the concert. That way you won't have to worry about re-applying lipstick all evening! You really do want to concentrate on your performance, instead. I am assuming you will be up on stage? If so, I think it will be impossible for most people in the audience to see whether or not you have lipstick on. Perhaps, if a photo is taken, dab a bit of gloss on at that time.

And may I suggest, that now you are going through puberty and your skin is acting up: try sprinkling a bit of baking soda on your hand, mix with your facial soap (cetaphil works great) and gently wash  your face, then rinse. This will help keep cleaning away the dead skin that can cause breakouts~ it is gentle and inexpensive, too!

Best wishes at your concert, hope you win!
