Hairstyle of the Month : Hollywood Glam

Glamour. Is it really in the eye of the beholder? Or is inherent in every tiara or bauble, or lipstick case, to be transmitted to the wearer. Some say, that glamour makes you look better than you really are. Others admit that a bit of glamour lurks in every being, only showing itself at the right moment or in the right light or next to the right gemstone.

Kelly Osbourne is no stranger to glamour and what it can do for her aura.We couldn't help but notice how the now face-of-the-Glamour-Queen-Madonna's fashion line at Macy's has bear-hug- embraced the Hollywood look of updos, and oh-so-Ivanka, when she presented Glamour's Woman of the Year award to Constance McMillan, the accidental activist, who stood up for her rights as a lesbian who was banned from going to her own prom.

As Kelly told Constance... " **** prom, you're dancing with me tonight!"

We've been paying attention ever since. And we'd like you to pay attention too, so this month, we are handing out our own glamour award to :::

Kelly Osbourne.

New Hairstyles : 3 ways to change up a short style

Question:
Dear Gigi, I am on the swim team at my school and I have to keep my hair short. Are there any really cool hairstyles I could try for my prom? My hair is straight mostly, but with a little wave.

Answer:
We don't know who to thank but trends like this are just so fun to play with. Rhianna, Halle, Victoria, Carey, gave us who love shorty hairstyles, the most hope, when it came to short, short hairstyles.

No longer just a way to save primping time, short hairstyles are finding their way into the hearts of glamorous women everywhere.

Trick is, there are a few actually, you must add some major drama if you want to change it up for a special occasion.

We recommend :

  1. color - no need for a hostile takeover, just use a tint or a temporary spray in blue or purple for a trendy night time look

  1. texture - wax or spray, its your choice, just make sure a lot of new strands are showing off

  1. volume - freshly washed, do a huge blow-out and barrel curls like Drew  Barrymore for an instant red carpet look
I've added 44 brand new short hairstyles just today, so come on and have a look see~

    Question
I made Homecoming and I have a Zebra dress I wanna kinda make it pop But do Black heels look best or is there another color i could wear to make  me stand out? and any cute hair styles for medium lenght hair?

    Answer
    Hi Lindsey,
Congratulations on making homecoming, what an honor.

Lindsey, your Zebra dress WILL POP, just because it is a Zebra dress.
The contrast will draw all eyes to you.

What you need to think abuot is your jewelry and other accessories. Be sure to wear really BOLD earrings, nothing too small, or they will look wimpy.

Check out the hairstyles gallery at Shop4prom.com

Depending on your face shape and hair texture, you can choose an updo which will make you look really sophisticated or wear your hair down arond your shoulders. But the updo will really show off your dress and make  you look like a celebrity.

What to Wear : Musical Contest

    Question
I need to dress up for a junior high music contest. I have three solos that I will be doing so I need to look alright for them. I know that the more info you have, the easier it will be to answer my question, so I'll give you some background.

I am a 13 year old girl in th 8th grade. I am quite pale, like I'm the lightest shade of face powder you will find. I have naturally blonde hair that has some natural red tones (i used to have red hair when i was little, but it turned blonde). I have dark green/blue/gray-green eyes and long light eyelashes. I have some skin problems, so I always wear a powder on my face. I also have fullish lips which I think are very pretty and naturally dark pinkish. I also have braces, on top and bottom teeth, if that means anything to you. My height is 5'4" and I weigh about 130 pounds, I don't really have any problem areas except my thighs, which doesn't matter because I'm wearing a dress.

The dress I'm wearing is black with black lace netting over it. The lace on top has darker black polka dots. The sleeves are sort of like a tank top but is made only out of lace and the normal dress fabric part of it starts at a "strapless" level I guess. The top part is fitted and has ruching on it under the lace and has a black ribbon that goes around a little under my waist. It goes to right below my knees and has more lace at the bottom to make it poof out a little, so it's an A-line dress. I'm wearing 2 and a half to 3 inch black heels that are really simple with it, a biggish clear crystal and silver ring (one big stone in the center with a silver color band around it), small dangly earrings that have black beads on them, and a 3-strand fake pearl bracelet with little seperater things that keep the strands together with small crystal rhinestone things on them. Mostly just simple accesories.

omg i know this is reeeaaally long but I just have a little bit left. If you could help me decide on makeup that would be helpful. I usually wear face powder, brown-black mascara (a couple of coats to make my eyelashes dark and full at the roots), not a lot of eyeliner (and I usually change the color every day), and sometimes lip gloss or a little bit of lipstick. Do you think I should maybe wear reddish lipstick and just mascara with a little bit of silvery shimmery eyeshadow, or should I make my eyes smoky-ish and shimmery and not do anything with my lips exept maybe a little bit of clear gloss? I'm not hoping to look super-vampy or glamorous, and I'm not going for the goth look, so I'm going to try not to wear to much black or dramatic makeup.

One of my solos is a French Horn solo, so I'll have to wipe off any lipstick or lipgloss and re-apply later. Also, do you think my outfit sounds all right? not to black or depressing, I hoped it looked classy.

    Answer
    Hi Lizzy,
First of all I want to commend you on your excellent use of the English language! I am very happy to receive letters with so much information and which is also clearly explained.

So you've picked our your dress and accessories, they all sound lovely, nicely chosen and classy. Simple and elegant is always right.

As for your makeup, I like the idea of making your eyes smoky, and eliminating your lipstick totally until after the concert. That way you won't have to worry about re-applying lipstick all evening! You really do want to concentrate on your performance, instead. I am assuming you will be up on stage? If so, I think it will be impossible for most people in the audience to see whether or not you have lipstick on. Perhaps, if a photo is taken, dab a bit of gloss on at that time.

And may I suggest, that now you are going through puberty and your skin is acting up: try sprinkling a bit of baking soda on your hand, mix with your facial soap (cetaphil works great) and gently wash  your face, then rinse. This will help keep cleaning away the dead skin that can cause breakouts~ it is gentle and inexpensive, too!

Best wishes at your concert, hope you win!

What to Wear : Wedding Guest Hairstyle

QUESTION: Does it matter what the weather conditions are and what shoes should i wear to a February wedding with a black dupioni silk tea length dress? And my hair should i have an updo or wear it down with curls?

    ANSWER: Hi Kina,
I hope I can help you with your questions!
In general, yes, the weather will be a deciding factor in what you wear with your dress. I sounds beautiful by the way. You will want to find some nice heels that have closed toes and heels, since you are attending a wedding in the middle of winter! If you live in an area where the temperature is in the forties or fifties, you can get away with open heel shoes, but if you are facing frigid weather or rain or snow, definitley wear closed shoes..we don't want any sneezing at the church!

As for your hair, I would have to know a little more about your face shape,,,because I would be deciding about your hairstyle based on what looks best on you...if you need help with learning what yoru faceshape is go to www.shop4prom.com and click on the hairstyles link.

Once you know, email or send another question with this info and I will recommend and really nice hairstyle picked just for you!!

Let me know if this helps or if you have more questions!
    Thanks

QUESTION: Concerning my Hairstlye...I have a extremely thick long straight hair, past my waist its hard to style any day ! I have green eyes and brown hair.I'm very natural looking also I do not wear make up.Occasionally lip gloss with a little tint and clear mascara. I'm still unsure as to what shape my face is but these are the measurements:cheekbones 6 inches across, jawline and forhead are the same 5inches, from the tip of my hairline to my chin it is close to 8 inches. so i would guess somewhere between oval, round and oblong. (my cheeks are extremely full).

    Answer

    Half down half updo
    Hi Kina,
You have a lovely face and beautiful hair! From your picture, and your measurements, it appears that your face shape is oval, which means you can wear just about any style you want!

I like the idea of using only a bit of tint on your lips, and the clear mascara separates and darkens your natural lashes. No need to wear makeup if you don't need it!

I chose this half down, half updo hairstyle for you for two reasons. #1 Its easy to achieve. #2 It will look good no matter how long the wedding and reception lasts.

Half down half updos are nice for girls who prefer natural styles, because it still looks natural. Typically, an updo takes more work to create and more products to keep it in place, such as pins, gels, and hair spray...and it doesn't always feel very comfortable, unless you are used to using a lot of product on your hair.

This style is perfect, it is classy, dressy and feminine. Perfect for any special occasion!

    What do you think?
